- Cows don't like to be interrupted while eating
- You don't have to necessarily understand...just be sure to memorize
- Having eye surgery was the best choice in the world for me (especially during gross anatomy lab)
- Missing people means that I know who I really love
- Being far away from home doesn't get easier, but adapting does get easier
- Cow dung looks nothing like human or dog dung...it doesn't smell like it either
- Hot sauce is really hot on Dominica
- Iguana's are amazing animals that move meticulously through everything
- People segregate regardless of where you are located on the earth. Apparently most people like to hang around people who look and act the same way that they do. Disappointing.
- Coconut trees have coconuts and Palm trees don't
- Running up mountains gets easier after doing it several times
- Fiber is very, very important
- Lettuce on Dominica should not be eaten because worms lay their eggs on the leaves and then humans ingest them and get worms.
- Sending laundry out for someone else to do rocks!
- Skype...its free to talk to anyone who downloads it onto their computer
- The human body is the most amazing piece of machinery around
- Pre-reading before a lecture is a must. Concept mapping after a lecture is a must.
- Writing a blog and getting responses...priceless!

Here is what I've learned...

Life is a journey, not a destination...it's refreshing to be capable of learning every single day.
* Cows eat an average of 90 lbs of food per day. This explains the crankiness of being interrupted when you have 90 lbs of food to eat before sundown!!
* Memorize, memorize, memorize! Mnemonic devices ROCK!
* Having to extricate a schmear of cadaver juice from your glasses during anatomy lab is a difficult and often disgusting process.
* Absence makes the heart grow fonder...although it also gives you an excuse to avoid those who really annoy you...lol
* Being far away from home makes you realize those things you are truly grateful for while reinforcing the oft quoted notion that "Home is where the heart is".
* Cow dung ferments over time and the methane can be used to generate electricity. Cows defecate, on average, 8.1 times per 24 hours (remember they eat up to 90 lbs of food per day). Cow poo is stringy and runny and forms a "pie" as it plops to the ground...hence the term cow "pie".
* Hot sauce anywhere outside of the United States is "REAL" hot sauce. We have no concept of this kind of "hot" in the U.S.
* Iguanas like to "soak" themselves in pools of water and often defecate where they soak. Iguana poo can transmit parasites.
* Segregation sucks! Too many times, we feel more comfortable around people who look and act as we do. The key is to break barriers, to banish unfounded "fears" and open yourself to others. Often, a simple act of kindness can break barriers.
* I wish I had a "lovely bunch of coconuts"!!
* Training in higher altitudes does amazing things for the body (after you feel like your lungs have died and once your legs stop feeling like jello all day).
* The RDI for Fiber is 25 grams per day. The average American consumes only 15 grams of fiber per day.
* Worms BAD. It has been recommended in many cases to rinse all foreign produce in a CLOROX bath to kill parasites and other nasties. The Clorox bath has been around for decades, and military families stationed overseas have used it through the recommendation of our State Department.
To ensure quality, use only brand-name Clorox, since other brands are not effective. Use 1 teaspoon of Clorox to 1 gallon of purified water. (If you can only find Clorox Ultra, cut the amount to ½ teaspoon to 1 gallon of water.) Place the foods to be treated into the bath for the designated length of time according to the following chart. Remove the foods from the Clorox bath, place them in clear water for ten minutes, and rinse. Dry all foods thoroughly and store.
Leafy vegetables = 15 minutes
Root, thick-skinned or fibrous vegetables = 30 minutes
Fruits = 30 minutes
Poultry, fish, meat and eggs = 20 minutes
Do not place ground meat in the bath, but frozen meat can be thawed in a Clorox bath, allowing about twenty minutes for up to 5 pounds of meat. Also check out the book "Guess What Came to Dinner" by Ann Louise Gittleman (she wrote The Fat Flush Plan)
* Most people don't appreciate laundry service until married. Marriage and paid help are usually the only opportunity to get someone else to wash your dirty panties. Hired help is the only option that won't judge you for it!!
* Skype sounds AWESOME
* The human body is truly AMAZING and most people take it for granted!
* Reading before a lecture is PARAMOUNT for decent understanding. Following up afterwards to fill in
the blanks is NECESSARY to properly comprehend the things you might have missed.
* Sharing what you learn with others....PRICELESS
You just realized that about fiber? I thought you figured that out after the banana incident??? Surprising.
